I just received a Spyderco Para Military 2 (aka “PM2”) with black G-10 scales and S30V satin blade (# C81G2) in the mail the other day. After opening the box and picking up the knife, my first thought was, “What on earth took me so long?”

This is a great folder, and I can see exactly why it is so popular for EDC usage and beyond. It is relatively lightweight, has a full flat-ground blade, a reversible four-way pocket clip, G-10 scales, smooth pivoting action, just enough jimping without overdoing it, and the looks to match. Initially, I was worried about the compression lock, but it is easy enough to activate and doesn’t get in the way. Compared to the Manix 2’s ball bearing lock, the PM2 lock has fewer moving parts to potentially go wrong, although either knife will probably last a lifetime.

Some specifications from Spyderco’s site:

  • Model #: C81G2
  • Weight: 3.9 oz. (111g)
  • Blade Length: 3.438″ (87mm)
  • Length Overall: 8.281″ (210mm)
  • Length Closed: 4.812″ (122mm)
